As a 50-year-old woman, I've embarked on an unexpected journey through menopause, a phase in life that has challenged me in ways I never anticipated. The rollercoaster of emotions, the anxiety that often feels suffocating, unexplained mood swings resulting in bursts of temper and irritability that seem to catch me by surprise, sudden weight gain that stubbornly clings to my body, and nights filled with poor sleep have been relentless companions on this path.
At first, I was bewildered, wondering if I was losing myself. It was only when I started connecting the dots and researching my symptoms that I realized the culprit – menopause - the dreaded M word. The realization was both liberating and daunting. The certainty that things would never be the same hit me like a ton of bricks.
But here's the thing about change – it's an inevitability of life. Menopause forced me to confront that reality head-on. It also pushed me to seek information and support, helping me understand what my body was going through and that I wasn't alone in this journey.
Embracing the changes hasn't been easy, but it's been transformative. I've learned that embracing menopause means embracing myself.
